Friends with a Side of Camping

We live in this beautiful state and I am so blessed to be able to explore it with amazing friends that I have here.
It is so important to me to enjoy the time that I have off. Sometimes it leads me shopping, sometimes cleaning, and most times it leads me to really exquisite adventures like this one!
We had the intention of spending the day on the river, tubing, and then to go camping and make a wonderful night of it. Well, it didn't all go as planned...
It all started at our favorite little spot right here in Edwards; Hovey and Harrison! ( So cute, BTW!! Go by and check them out!!) So we get our brunch and get on our way to get our tubing underway! We finally get to the river, blow up our tubes and find a few holes in some tubes; That didn't stop us! We were determined to float the river and have an amazing time. There were about 10 of us floating down the river. At first it was a "let's all hook together and be friends" type of start. The first loop around the river it quickly turned into a "every man for himself" type of day! We get trapped in an eddy (side of the river with no current) and it literally was every man for himself. We all start paddling like maniacs on our tubes to get out of there! A couple of us make it out of there no problem, others get really stuck in there! On top of getting trapped not only by the water, but by the wind! AH!
We make it a little further down the river, all while the clouds are rolling in with what looks like a storm.. It was a big mess. If you don't live in Colorado, maybe you don't know, but Colorado is known for afternoon storms that roll in as fast as they roll out. We all complained almost the whole time of being so cold. We all had pretty good tubes to be honest - Meaning they had covers to protect the bottom of our little booties to get scraped from the rocks or anything else. BUT our one dear friend only had a small inner tube to get him down the river, and I'm talking small! - Mind you, he was the tallest of the group fitted on to the smallest tube. Funny as it is, that poor thing was submerged in the water almost the whole time. For instance, I would see him going down the river and ONLY see his body. His tube was so small, guys!! PS. He couldn't get rid of his chill for hours! Poor guy!!
The ending of our ghastly tubing extravaganza was the best story-esque part of it all! While we all were freezing, with clouds over our heads; Two of our dear friends were STILL stuck in the eddy this whole time we were all making our way down the river. They were so stuck that they literally got out, hiked back to the car and met our sweet softie souls on the river where we happened to take a break. We then swam our tubes across the river with SO much effort to then climb up a bank, across a rocky rail road and to finally - the ever so beautiful, sacred car!! Ladies and Gents --- We made it... barely half way down the river path, but we made it!! Go us!
Honestly, I put our tubing experience into so many words because we weren't able to take our phones on the river, so I wasn't able to capture any pathetic, cold pictures of us barely making it down the river. So you got words :)
On to our very next adventure -- CAMPING
We set up our camp site, ate fire roasted food and fellowshipped like no other. It was a night to remember! As we were driving up to find our secluded spot, we got on a road that is a little bumpy! We were going less than 5 MPH and that was pushing it. Still, we made it to the sacred spot right off a small little pond and it was perfect for us! We saw a newt, built a fire and had such an amazing night. We worshiped our Lord and Savior with some sweet and simple songs, talked deeply and loved even deeper!
Over all, it was a memorable experience! Through the good and bad/cold! The least I can say about that weekend adventure is that life gives you all kinds of opportunities and you just have to make the best of them. Thankfully, with the friends I have by my side; who could think any differently than happiness amongst the not so happy things in life. SMILE and take in the good things in this crazy life.
Thank you for listening to my sweet and not so simple story of my simple and sweet mountain life!
